About the Event

COME  JOIN US IN WATCHING AUNTY DONNA MITTS ALL TIME FAVORITE FILM AND  SENDING HER JOY AND WELL WISHES IN HER UNEXPECTED HEALTH JOURNEY!! Regular Admission, donations/fundraiser details via GoFundme link or cash calabash at door.

If  you live on the Hamakua Coast, you have probably been lucky enough to  have crossed paths with Aunty Donna at some point; she’s a brilliant  farmer, gardener, teacher, business owner, friend, and mother.  She has  been a face of organic farming in this community for over 30 years, not  to mention helping to bring gardening back to our public schools.  Did  we mention she also was a part of running this here theatre back in the  day???  She’s also a pet training enthusiast and organizer of the Doggie  Parade at Hāmakua Harvest where she is a board member and volunteer, so  we are pulling in her all time favorite movie (it’s hilarious, 93%Fresh  on Rottentomatoes) to lift us up in laughter & love and perhaps  some funds & well wishes to send her way as a small token of our  appreciation.  Just come and share a smile!

BEST IN SHOW (2007) 1hr 30 min PG-13

A  fine example of writer-director-star Christopher Guest's (This Is  Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman) gift for improv comedy, Best in Show  boasts an appealingly quirky premise and a brilliantly talented cast.

At  the prestigious Mayflower Dog Show, a "documentary film crew" captures  the excitement and tension displayed by the eccentric participants in  the outrageously hilarious satire Best In Show. This biting send-up  exposes the wondrously diverse dog owners who travel from all over  America to showcase their four-legged contenders. Mild-mannered salesman  Gerry Fleck (Eugene Levy) and his vivacious wife, Cookie (Catherine  O'Hara), happily prepare their Norwich Terrier, while shop owner Harlan  Pepper (Christopher Guest) hopes his Bloodhound wins top prize. As two  upwardly mobile attorneys (Parker Posey and Michael Hitchcock) anxiously  ready their neurotic Weimaraner and an ecstatically happy gay couple  (Michael McKean and John Michael Higgins) dote on their tiny Shih Tzu,  inept commentator Buck Laughlin (Fred Willard) vainly attempts to  provide colorful tidbits about each breed.

Lou Lumenick - New York Post: " I was laughing so hard, tears were streaming down my cheeks."

Roger Ebert - Chicago Sun-Times: "A wickedly funny mocumentary."

Stephen Holden - New York Times: "Best in Show is essentially a well-organized, exquisitely nuanced skit comedy."
