About the Event
For over 30 years Honokaa High and Intermediate School band teacher Gary Washburn has been inspiring students to produce outstanding music. Students have a choice of two tracks, Ensembles or the Jazz Band, and Honokaa School has become nationally recognized for it's outstanding music program and the efforts of Mr. Washburn, winning a Grammy in Music Education.
Due to these amazing efforts, Honokaa High & Intermediate is proud to be a GRAMMY Signature School—one of only 26 programs nationwide ever to receive the distinction. Known for their high-energy performances and dedication to music education, the band brings big band jazz, swing, and blues to the stage with heart and soul.They’ve performed across the Hawaiian Islands, at national music conventions, and on NPR’s From the Top, sharing the stage with celebrated artists like David Benoit and Marcia Ball.
