Midsummer Exanded Dance

That  warm Midsummer Nightʻs glow is here! We invite you to spend the  twilight hours of Saturday, July 20 with a fantastic musical crew with  an Expanded Dance—Ecstatic-like but extra djʻs and guests in our normal  family-friendly dance atmosphere. The magic of Summertime means full  bloom flowers, sun-kissed fruit, and a toe tapping good time. Join  us as we send off our dear Hāmākua music friend Odysseus on journeys  afar with an adieu set in wistful, magical celebration echoing the  Shakespearean ode to summer sunsets. Joining Odysseus on stage will be  Danny Waddell and J Sun, alongside Hayden Spector, Michaeloha Elam,  Amanda Rose, Dramma Calais, Michael Rannells, Marika Ripke, and more.  With  all these extra performers we will have a camera person capturing the  magic onstage, so please be aware that you may end up in the footage. This is  not a normal Ecstatic Dance and we are not calling it such, but most Ecstatic ideas apply—no shoes, phones, words, or intoxicants,  mahalo! Come  prepared to glow if you feel drawn with the Midsummer Night theme with sparkles, flowers, and if desired, some blacklight reactive paint will  be available in the lobby—or come as you are and dance wholeheartedly you however that is. This is a three-hour dance journey plus an extended  sound bath, so wellness refreshments and space to relax and talk will be  available in the lobby. Odysseus  is a seasoned DJ who began his musical journey in the mid-nineties  playing eclectic sets often with live musicians, mixing Asian, Middle  Eastern, and African elements into diverse beats. He is one of pioneers  of the electronic music scene on Hawai‘i Island, and is one of the  original Ecstatic Dance musical facilitators at Kalani’s iconic Ecstatic  Dance. Danny Waddell is Ecstatic Dance Honoka‘aʻs co-facilitator who  came to the ecstatic dance journey through House and Breaks and is now  focused on exploring various musical styles for a full range of emotions  for deeper discovery, healing, and transformation. J Sun is a lover of  music, dance, and the journey who likes to go deep with an eclectic mix  of world, tribal, bass, and deep house grooves for high vibes and good  times. We  are excited to offer up something a little different this month. We  hope to see you on the floor! We will be back to the regularly scheduled  Ecstatic program in August.
