About the Event
A special evening with "Soldier of Orange" and his family.
Come join a special evening at the Honokaa Peopleʻs Theatre to watch the movie "Soldier of Orange" (1977) on the big screen starring Rutger Hauer as EriK. The award-winning movie Soldier of Orange is presently the longest running musical production in Dutch history, just breaking its own record by selling 3-1/2 million tickets in October 2023. Erik Hazelhoff was a Dutch writer & student critical of Nazi Germanyʻs policies of excluding the Jewish community who became a resistance fighter and RAF pilot during the Second World War. Near the end of the war he was made assistant to Queen Wilhelmina and Knight 4th class of the Military William Order.
Erik Hazelhoff, whose life it is based on was a well loved and charismatic community member of Honokaa, and his beloved wife of 60 years, Karin passed away last year. In memory of their contributions to our community and worldwide, the Peopleʻs Theatre would like to invite folks to come learn more about these daring and caring citizens who risked all with so much aloha.
The Hazelhoff family would like to honor Erik & Karin with a special showing of the movie and free copies of Erik's books, as long as they last!
Q & A afterward with Karna, Maurice and Meadow. Please, don't forget to wear ORANGE.
